A rich history
Malaysian and Chinese fishers first inhabited Koh Samui, but tourism has imposed itself in recent decades and allowed the island to open up to the world.
Located in the southern part of Thailand, where Islam dominates, the Buddhist identity remains major in Koh Samui. Thai people of various origins, you will be under the charm of the Samui's, and they're welcome in "the land of smiles."
The mixture of traditions, beliefs, and cultures has allowed the island to create a unique and peaceful identity that you will not find anywhere else.
Breathtaking landscapes
Koh Samui is known for its paradisiacal setting, soft sand, and turquoise water. Whether you're an amateur or a novice diver, don't forget your fins, mask, and snorkel to discover the island's marine depths. You can observe the coral reef at Koh Tao, a great site, thanks to the shallow, warm and azure waters.
Nature lovers will find happiness in the heart of the jungle of Koh Samui, where they can bathe in the many waterfalls. Among them, you can discover the Na Muang waterfalls, the most popular twin waterfalls of the island, located in the south of the island.
You can't miss Ko Angthong, the marine national park of Mu Ko Ang Thong with 42 pristine islands on 102 km2. This string of islets consists of little natural paradises covered with tropical forests of all shapes and sizes, heavenly beaches, and coconut trees in turquoise waters: a necklace of emeralds scattered in the sea.
An authentic and serene culture
The inhabitants are mainly Buddhist, so you will find many temples to visit, the temple of the "Big Buddha" for example, known for its golden cover or others of ochre color. Do not forget the Magic Garden, where you will observe magnificent sculptures of angels, animals, and Buddhas; it is an incredible natural place.
Chinese influences have also left their mark, with Sinothai temples like Wat Plai Laem and its statue representing Guanyin with 18 arms.
Let's not forget the Muslim community with its village of Hua Thanon in the southeast of the island and its magnificent mosque and its tiny fishing boats.
For sports and action lovers, Thai boxing is the national sport. You can watch the fights at the Chaweng stadium, but be careful not to be too sensitive... For calm spirits, the practice of yoga and meditation are also prevalent.
If you want to get involved in the local life, it will be possible for you to do volunteer work: preservation of some animal species, teaching English to children, or protecting the reefs.

Leurs parcours ? 🛣️
Augustin a exercé dans plusieurs domaines d’activités : marketing, commercial, R&D… Cela fait 17 ans qu’il vit à Koh Samui. Après avoir travaillé dans la restauration, Coralie était cheffe d’entreprise pendant 4 ans mais a revendu son entreprise pour s’installer en Thaïlande depuis 10 ans.
Ce qui les anime dans la vie ? 💛
Augustin aime avoir de nouveaux objectifs et se découvrir, notamment à travers les voyages. “J’aime me trouver de nouvelles missions ou opportunités.” Coralie est contente du projet du Holicoach “car ça me fait travailler sur moi et je peux apporter pas mal de choses au Holiworkers”. Coralie adore voyager et quitter l’île pour découvrir autre chose.
Pourquoi être Holicoach? 🎒
Augustin : “J’ai découvert l’Asie du Sud-Est à 25 ans et je m’y suis installé à mes 30 ans. Je trouve que la France est un beau pays mais c’est encore plus formidable si on peut avoir une culture et une expérience à l’étranger, donc justement je voudrais aider celles et ceux qui veulent franchir le pas et les aider à avoir une expérience à Koh Samui”.
Coralie : “Cela fait maintenant 10 ans que je suis installée ici avec mon fils, on a appris beaucoup de choses : une autre culture, un autre mode de vie, une certaine liberté. Ce n’est pas donné à tout le monde donc c’est vrai que ça change totalement de la France alors on est heureux de pouvoir transmettre tout ce qu’on sait sur l’île et sur ce mode de vie à nos futurs Holiworkers”.
Quel aspect de la culture thaï ont-ils envie de partager et pourquoi ? 👀
Augustin apprécie et souhaite faire partager à nos Holiworkers l’esprit zen des Thaïlandais, leur respect pour la nature et les personnes. Coralie affirme “Les Thaïlandais ont une vie différente des Français, pas pressés, pas stressés, ils ont une grande zénitude”.
Un truc sympa pour les holiworkers ? ✨
Coralie et Augustin proposent aux Holiworkers un tour de Koh Samui en deux roues (mélange de routes, de chemin, de plage, on passe dans la montagne…). “On passe un peu partout et c’est un beau parcours découverte, à chaque site nous nous arrêtons pour raconter une petite histoire. Faire découvrir les temples et les plages au sud de l’île pour se perdre dans des coins préservés, manger un morceau…”
Leur site préféré à Koh Samui ? 📍
Coralie et Augustin expliquent que Koh Samui offre beaucoup de choix : “Voir du monde, aller dans une rue commerçante, profiter de la plage… Nous n’avons pas de site préféré mais nous avons un large choix d'endroits et d’activités à découvrir. Sinon on aime bien boire un cocktail sur la plage pendant le coucher de soleil.”
Leurs plats préférés ? 🍽️
Phat KaPhrao : porc ou poulet émincé avec du basilic et piment, le Massaman : poulet, coconut, curry et pommes de terres avec riz, ou encore le Tom kha gai (Coconut soup) : poulet émincé avec du lait de coco.
Un spot pour boire un verre ? 🍹
“Le Jungle Club qui est en hauteur dans les montagnes avec une vue imprenable, piscine, mais il faut réserver sa place pour pouvoir admirer le coucher de soleil.”

“Allez-y lancez-vous car les voyages forment la jeunesse. Et culturellement parlant, on en apprend beaucoup en voyageant à l’étranger. C’est une très belle expérience, vous avez la chance de pouvoir faire ça dans vos vies, il n’y a pas d’insécurité en plus à Koh Samui. C’est tellement beau et enrichissant que vous ne le regretterez pas !”
